Egypt

Egypt is Otherworldly

The heat was intense, and the history sublime. The pyramids, temples and views of the Nile, whether from Cairo or Aswan, awed and inspired me. Traveling here can be a challenge, physically and logistically, but everything can be navigated with good planning. Don’t leave this trip on your bucket list: go as soon as you can.

Cairo - Where the Ancient and Modern Come Together

My trip started in Cairo at the Four Seasons Nile Plaza, where my view of the river was positively electric, with the Cairo skyline of glittering high rises and ancient buildings spread out along the Nile. Cairo is where you’ll see the pyramids, and of course, ride a camel if you’re so inclined. The pyramids have lived in my imagination for so long I wasn’t sure what to expect, but they truly are magnificent. Make time to visit the Egyptian Museum, which houses artifacts from King Tut’s tomb.

Jaw-dropping History from Luxor to Awswan

Located 130 miles apart along the Nile, Luxor and Aswan are overflowing with incredible temples, landmarks and historic sites. We traveled between them on a dahabiya Nile cruise–these are traditional sailing boats with private cabins, great for small groups.

Luxor is one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world (4,000 years and counting!). My favorite temples were Karnak (best columns) and Kom Ombo (love those crocodiles), but my favorite part of the trip was visiting the Old Cataract Hotel which inspired Agatha Christie to write “Death on the Nile.” I will never forget the view from the balcony of her suite—entirely magical, especially at dusk.

There are many ways to do Egypt--so many temples to see, many hotels to choose from and hundreds of river cruises down the Nile. Schedule a call with me and we can plan your perfect time there.

I highly recommend good guides for this trip—it makes all the difference to have someone whose love and passion for the country is contagious so that the history really comes alive. And you should get ready for your trip by watching the Netflix Documentary on Saqqara.
