Choose Your Own Adventure on the Greek Isles
I spent three weeks in July 2023 Greek island hopping with my teens. Every island has its own energy and highlights, and we learned about them all! So, grab yourself a pair of white linen pants, a bathing suit and sunscreen, and leave the rest to me.
Dynamic Mykonos
Looking for a fun and lively scene? Mykonos is where you belong. Splurge and charter a boat—we did a small yacht, and it was a perfect way to spend the day: a visit to the ancient ruins of Delos (these rival Pompeii) and then the gorgeous beaches of Rhenia. Beach clubs are the thing to do here, and they come in all different vibes. And yes, many are appropriate for kids and teens and some even have motorized water sports. Leave some time to explore Chora, with its iconic architecture and everything from souvenirs to high end shops and tons of bars and restaurants.
Free-spirited Paros
Paros is a gorgeous island with a boho chic vibe. The picturesque town of Naurossa has plenty of stylish shops to delight everyone. We loved our day trip to Antiparos--reserve some chairs at a beach club or splurge and make spa appointments at the Rooster for a real treat. A pottery class up in the mountains of this more rustic island was a highlight of our time here.
Explore from Naxos
I was very excited for Naxos, and it did not disappoint. Perfectly situated not far from Milos, Mykonos and Paros, it is a great island to stay on and do a few day trips. The island itself was a total win—beautiful views, great food and killer sunsets made us all very happy. And one of our favorite beaches was on this island. Don’t skip the homemade ice cream or citron liquor which is distilled on the island.
Sparkling Milos
We were told that Milos has the best beaches, and truer words have never been spoken. This is an island for exploring—get yourself a car and check out all this island has to offer. The beaches on the southern shore of the island boast crystal clear water and soft sand, while the northern part of the island is best for that perfect sunset. Our time there felt like a beautiful dream that was just too short.
Queen Satorini
And then there is Santorini. The only island I have been to twice—once off season in my 20s and again in this summer’s high season–and it was just as perfect. Santorini has long been the queen of the islands, and with its breathtaking views, it is easy to understand why. Many like to stay on the Caldera - a cauldron-like, volcanic depression - which has the famed stone Karavolades Stairs (all 588 of them!), blue domed buildings and stunning views. It is also one of the islands with a larger airport so you can get direct from cities across Europe as well as Athens.
Don’t Sleep on Athens
Finally, do not forget Athens. It is a brilliant city full of life, history, and great food. I was happy to see it again, exploring its unique neighborhoods and reveling in the history that’s around every corner. If you have done the Acropolis, skip it this time for the magical sunset at Sounion, the ruins of an ancient religious sanctuary on a spectacular overlook. And a stop for dinner on the way home along the ocean is a great choice.

Note: don’t bother to pack sandals, buy them there! They are perfect for the stone streets, comfortable and stylish too. If you start in Athens, we loved Ancient Greek Sandals. Melissinos Art Sandals come highly recommended too.
